Braemar experiences a subpolar oceanic climate, which is rare in the U.K.
Braemar has twice recorded the lowest U.K weather temperature record list recording -27.2c, on February 11th 1985 and again on January 10th 1982. This record is shared with Altnaharra is the Scottish Highlands.
Braemar has an average of 102 days air frost per year, the most being in Dec,Jan and Feb of 17 days or more.
Snowfall can be heavy in winter up until late April and even into early May. These snowfall depths can average at around 30cm.
On February 9th 2021 , I recorded a new unofficial record of 70cm of snowfall depth in the village.
Braemar can experience the durinal range from being the coldest place in the U.K to the warmest. On September 30th 2015 Braemar went from -1.3c to 24.0c and the next day on October 1st 2015 , Braemar went from -2.0 to 22.7c.
On February the 11th 2021 Braemar recorded -23.0c , making it the coldest place in the U.K since December 1995 and the lowest February temperature since 1955.
